Why IT industry Shed Crocodile tears now?

Posted in Anna University, Engineering Education with tags , on September 10, 2009 by bulldozerr

The hard  learnt lesson by the industry (2nd time) should make them sensible enough, I hope.

The IT industry did many things indiscriminately and made the country suffer for the greed of it.

They (many dubious!!) opened up like a mushrooms of rainy season.

Recruited from all disciplines irrespective of their ability (to comprehend the process of software development, for instance).

This resulted in recruiting (on campus, off campus, job melahs (few India’s National News papers joined to beat the drum), etc..) Bio Technology, All other Engg. branch students, arts and science graduates, with a bait – huge salary.

The consequence being creating ill equipped software professionals,  creating an artificial vacuum in the respective fields, poor quality software products.

Worst is when the IT industry fell, the poor fellows became unfit to be part of the respective fields resulting in Huge Unemployment.

The ones, thrown out over night, became defaulters of many banks (loans to save tax!!!) and still undergo turmoil (Banks run havoc in their life), unable to lead the lost life-style. Created unnecessary imbalance in money flow.

When carrying out the illogical recruitment drive, they created unnecessary pressure on the academia (placement, on & off campus drives). Now trying to find fault with higher academic institutions and coming up with misssssions, vissssssions with all kind of  NXs (applied thoughts!!!). They should go to institutions which train people on the skill sets (equally mushroomed during this period of cancerous growth of IT industry) rather than higher engineering institutions.

Oh!! lot to be said, Will be back in a while.

Rank List of Affiliated Institutions – Anna University

Posted in Engineering Education with tags on April 27, 2009 by bulldozerr

Next I wish to talk on Anna University Chennai’s recently published Ranking.

I suppose the Anna University Chennai (was) simply an University of good status internationally. (those days! only to be lamented…) But of late, again the university is involving in the kind of activity that creates unnecessary cut-throat competition among the institutions?? In the past the similar act created an uproar among the managements of affiliated colleges.

It is absolutely unwarranted for the university to publish rank list of institutions. Is it spelt as a responsibility of the university in its constitution?

The COE and his team needs to be appreciated for their data interpretation skills and their tremendous creativity in bringing in as many rank lists as possible out the creativity!!!!

Instead of doing such a lousy job, the COE must concentrate on improving the examination system and make all out effort in bringing out the creativity of the students. Must Dare to Change the question paper pattern, bring in more analysis oriented questions such that the student need to think & solve a small portion of real-life problems at the examination hall. Spend his creativity in improvising the laboratory examinations. These are small effort at the tip of an iceberg at UG level.

The PG examination system is still pathetic. I am still wondering what our master degree level student can do to this poor country, what this poor chap, COE, can do to improve…..

Yes, he can bring in some more reports/rank lists on these areas as well in spite of what had been published already.

To do all these stuff (nonsense) he needs to be provided with a best super computer available on the earth only to match his creativity!!!!!

The consequences (reality) of publishing this kind of rank list, its repercussions are to be looked into by this humble genius COE by not sitting in Chennai but by going out to various affiliated colleges both in Chennai and in interior Tamil Nadu.

This Highly creative man kills the creativity of future generation in absolute terms. (An assassin!!!!)
Deserves a capital punishment.

Research – (Water in Milk / Milk in water)

Folks! today I have the urge that I must tell something about the researchers in the computing science field.

Every one in the CSE field of study aware about NS2 (Network Simulator) and its sibling Glomosim!!

You want to get a Ph.D degree (mind that the objective is not doing anything serious about computing science research). Download one of loads of papers available on the net from the brotherhood from China. Don’t bother if you don’t understand any of the Greek letters or formula in that paper. Nobody bothers about your understanding.

You must make a claim your area of specialization as one of the following:
Networks, Mobile ad hoc networks, Network Security (Believe that you really need not have to know anything big in those area at all).

Open the local dailies look for the following lines in the classifieds “Doing Ph. D/live projects/IEEE projects ….)

Got it. Reach them. You will be given the project/Thesis/Implementation and what not. These are the Angels (Most of the times your own students working for a small sum) who remembers the quote of Jesus “Ask you will be given”. Of course for a sum.

So, the crux of the matter is Ph.D is possible from local news paper, your own students who have performed miserably in their studies, with money etc…

Yes, I must have forgotten to mention “the art of publishing”. Second “the art of fixing viva and getting through the process”.One can write a book on these topics.

Essentially Universities must think of not allowing any doctoral work using this simulators.

Its stuffy. Let me go for some rest. Sure, I will come back.

Engineering Education – Anna University

AICTE & UGC: The role of these agencies is highly questionable analogous. These two agencies’ rationale of permitting as many number of Higher Engineering Institutions and granting University status to many of these institution need urgent review. Whole lot of Universities!!! In what way they improved technical education scenario of the country? Giving away degrees in an unscrupulous manner. Producing bunch of unproductive but qualified!!! man power are all big joke. Is there any single person in these agencies with a brain of the size of an ant? Illogical comparison with developed countries!!!

There was big cry from someone in these university to bring IITs, IISc, IIMs under the umbrella of these agencies (Open Page on The Hindu). The Bunch of Jokers will spoil these premier institutions as well.

Managements of Self financing Institutions and so called (Deemed) Universities: only eye for profit. They are least interested in bringing quality education on this country.

Infrastructure: means few computers in labs. In many colleges Computing facilities are show pieces when (stupid) parents come visiting for an admission for their ward.

Students: who enter into these institutions (thanks to getting rid of entrance tests!!! Try removing JEE as well) are absolutely mud horses – always getting carried by the Indian cinema and holding a cell phone (at times more than one) lacking sense of ambition, sense of science, sense of Engineering but desperate to get an engineering degree.

Teachers: An year back was a student in a Self financing institution. Now on the Dias, blabbering some thing, most of the time nothing about subject.

Principals: (Most of them, almost 90%) A puppet in the hands of Managements. Did some Ph. D. (Mind it some Ph. D.) Ambitious in seeing their kids in the USA or UK and at their fag end of their profession!!! to mint money and enjoy the status of being a principal. Ready to do whatever the mgmts. say. Neither their staff respect them nor the students respect them.

Books: Former Vice Chancellor of AU, Chennai in every function encouraged faculty of Self financing colleges to do cut/copy paste jobs. He even mocked at “can’t you do this simple job of cut/copy paste”.

Seminars, Conferences, Work Shops: Many do not really understand these.

Publishers: Too many local publishers. If they don’t publish your work, start a publishing house of your own and publish it at any cost. (There are examples)

Publications: Are must. Do what ever, publish it. If possible patent it. Copy/Paste, Change here and there, Change the title, Don’t forget to replace the name of the authors with yours, don’t forget to include guide’s name (very important), By this you and your guide can improve the count. Ask your friends to quote your paper in their paper and you too quote their’s. Citation count is important too. (These counts are a boasting things for both faculty and institutions) You get all paid trip and … as an incentive!!!!) (look into the employment advertisements in the dailies)

Placement: ??????????

God! too much to write about. I am tired. I will come back.
